We are Not Invincible

By Drew Brown Leave a Comment

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

Here is another text where the Psalmist plainly admits weakness. The Hebrew verb that is translated here as “may fail” means “to vanish, fade away.” (HALOT). Instead of believing in invincibility, which we often do, Asaph confesses that he is human and therefore has limits.

“But God.” These treasured words again come to us and remind us where our true strength lies – in him. Very often it’s not until we are at the end of ourselves that we remember God and his strength.

PRAYER: Father, I am immersed in a culture where we believe we are infinite, immortal, and unstoppable. How different it is from how your Word describes me! Help me to accept my earthly limits and so be free to also accept the strength you provide through Jesus Christ, Amen.
